Agri exports Peru projected to surpass US$11.5 billion by the end of 2024

Peru’s agricultural exports have reached US$10.545 billion by the end of 2023, with projections to surpass US$11.500 billion by the end of
2024, as reported by the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagri). Despite challenges, the collaborative efforts of producers, exporters, and the state have enabled a 2.9% increase in exports over the previous year. Over the past 23 years, these exports have seen an average annual growth of 11.9%.

Key to this growth are 20 products that make up 74.6% of total agricultural exports, including grapes, blueberries, avocados, asparagus, mangoes, and citrus fruits, among others. Notably, grapes, blueberries, and avocados each approach or exceed US$1 billion in annual export value.

Grapes lead in export value, reaching US$1.745 billion in 2023, a 28% increase from 2022. The grape export season, primarily from regions like Ica and Piura, peaks in December and January, targeting markets in the United States, the European Union, and Asia.

Blueberries followed, with exports worth US$1.676 billion in 2023. Despite a 24.2% decrease in volume from the previous year, high international market prices boosted their export value. The blueberry export window has expanded, with peak volumes in September and October, thanks to new plant varieties that meet high international standards.

Avocados ranked third, with exports totalling US$963 million in 2023, a 7.6% increase over the previous year. The export season spans almost the entire year, with the majority of exports occurring from March to September. Avocados are primarily produced in regions such as Ica and Lambayeque.

Other notable Peruvian agricultural exports include coffee, cacao, mangoes, and quinoa. Despite climatic challenges, Peru’s diverse ecosystems and climates facilitate year-round production, contributing to the country’s strong export performance.
