Statement: Situation in Peru

Regarding the different social protests recently experienced in Peru that could affect in any way the travel decision of tourists, we want to express that the public and private institutions of the tourism sector are executing several actions to attend and guide national and foreign tourists in the different regions of the country.

In this context, be informed that from 22th December all the regional airports have restarted their operations, with the exception of Apurimac, a service that is not commercial. Meanwhile, the airports of Arequipa, Ayacucho, Cusco and Puno have resumed their flight operations for all passengers.

However, in the case of the airport Alfredo Rodriguez Ballon (Arequipa) the schedule is partial, as night flights will not be available for the next three months.

In addition, the railway operations on the route Cusco – Ollantaytambo – Machupicchu – Hydroelectric have resumed as well. While the operations on the Route Cusco – Puno of the southern railway will remain suspended.

Moreover, from 21th December tickets to Machupicchu are on sale, which also includes the Inca Trail Road network. Tickets can be purchased virtually on the website of the Ministry of Culture of Peru (https://www.machupicchu.gob.pe/) and also in person at the Decentralized Directorate of Culture Cusco (Calle Maruri 324, Cusco 08002).

In the coming days, the reopening of other tourist attractions in the Cusco region such as Sacsaywaman, Pisaq, Chinchero, Ollantaytambo, Moray, Tambomachay, among others, is expected.
